If you’ve stayed with us before, you’ll know that the Montana Log Cabin has always had a special place in our hearts. It was our very first glamping retreat we had at Ockeridge. It’s a beautiful wooden cabin that blends space, comfort and countryside calm in a way that just feels… right. With two bedrooms, an open plan living area and plenty of room for both families and couples, it’s always been a firm favourite.
But this year, we wanted to make it extra special.
If there’s one thing we love doing as a family business, it’s finding new ways to make our guests’ stays even more magical. We’re forever asking ourselves, “What would make this retreat feel even more special?” And this year, we decided it was time to give the Montana a little upgrade we’ve been dreaming about for ages.
We listened to feedback, looked at how guests were using the space, and decided it was time to take the outdoor bathing experience to a whole new level. So we rolled up our sleeves (literally!), got to work, and we’re so excited to finally share what we’ve created.
For years, The Montana had a single outdoor bath tucked on the front decking. Guests loved it,
especially the novelty of bathing outside, but we kept hearing the same thing:
“It would be perfect if it was big enough for two.”
“We’d love somewhere we could really switch off in the evenings.”
And honestly… we agreed! The cabin deserved something more special. Something that matched the magic of the views, the spacious layout and the cosy charm inside.
So we started imagining what the perfect outdoor bathing space could feel like:
● Private and enclosed, without losing that fresh countryside air
● Romantic and atmospheric for couples
● Relaxing and convenient for parents once the kids were tucked up
● Beautifully lit, because everything feels better under a warm glow
And, of course, roomy enough for a long soak for two.
That’s when the idea of creating a whole new dedicated Soak Space took hold. Not just a bath placed outside… but an experience.
What started as a “maybe we could…” quickly turned into “right, let’s do it,” and before long, we
were knee deep in decking, lighting plans, and plant walls, all to bring this vision to life.
And we’re so glad we did.
Introducing the New Soak Space
We’re beyond excited to finally share the finished upgrade: a beautiful, fully enclosed outdoor area at the back of the cabin, designed to be a little slice of luxury for our guests.
The centrepiece, of course, is the double ended outdoor bath, big enough for two, and perfect for long, relaxing soaks. Whether you’re a couple looking for a romantic evening under the stars or parents enjoying a quiet moment once the kids are in bed, this bath is all about indulgence and tranquillity.
Surrounding the bath, we’ve created a private oasis. Lush plant walls bring a touch of nature in, while festoon lighting sets a warm, magical glow as the sun goes down. And because we love a little fun, we’ve added a light up “Soak” sign to really highlight the area; it’s now the ultimate spot for photos, memories, and that well needed relaxation.
We’ve been thinking about this upgrade for a while, and seeing it finally come together feels amazing. It’s these personal touches, the things we know make a stay truly special, that we love bringing to life for our guests.
