Bewdley is one of the prettiest riverside towns in the county, and it is the kind of place we send guests off to knowing they will come back happy. It sits on the Severn, all Georgian fronts and little independent shops, with the river running right through the middle of it. It is a proper day out, not just a quick stop. And when you are staying with us here in the Worcestershire countryside, it is an easy one to reach.
The riverside and the town
The first thing you notice in Bewdley is the river, wide and slow and lovely to sit beside. The bridge over it was designed by Thomas Telford, so you are looking at a proper bit of engineering while you wander across for your morning coffee. There are riverside pubs where you can sit out with a pint and watch the water go by, which is exactly the sort of simple thing we love.
Away from the river there are independent shops to potter round, the kind that make a town feel like itself and not like everywhere else. You can spend a happy couple of hours just walking the streets, having a look in the windows, stopping for lunch somewhere along the way. It is a bit different to a shopping trip at home, isn’t it? And there are river walks to take you out of the town centre when you fancy stretching your legs a little further.
Pairing your Bewdley Worcestershire visit with the railway or the forest
What makes Bewdley such good value for a day is everything sitting right next to it. It is a stop on the Severn Valley Railway, so you can arrive or leave by steam train, which is a treat in itself, especially if you have never done it. You can ride the line, hop off, have a wander, and ride it back. Simple, but that is what it is all about.
And then the Wyre Forest is right on the doorstep, so a Bewdley day and a forest day fold neatly into one. You could do the town in the morning, take yourself into the trees in the afternoon, and feel like you have had a proper adventure without driving all over the place. That is the joy of it. Everything is close, everything is quirky, and you never quite run out of things to see.
Making the day from the Worcestershire countryside
From our gates, Bewdley is an easy run, so you can have a slow start, a good soak in your copper bath, and still be by the river in plenty of time for lunch. That is how a lot of our guests like it, a lazy morning at the hut and then off to explore, because there is so much on our doorstep that it feels a shame not to.
Whichever retreat you have booked, you have got a calm base to come home to at the end of it. The Ashwood is our most popular, with a copper bath for two and a log burner, and it is the sort of place you fall straight back into after a day out. If you are travelling with little ones, the Montana log cabin is the one for you, with room for the family and its own outdoor bath. Come back, run the water to whatever temperature you like, and let the day settle.
There is so much else to find round here too, and we have gathered plenty of it on our out and about page for when you fancy planning ahead. Bewdley is just one of the lovely places you can reach from us.
Come and swap the everyday for a bit of this, book your stay and let the river and the woods do the rest.
