Cycling in Worcestershire is one of those simple things that never gets old for us. From the gates here you can be off down a quiet lane in minutes, and there is countryside stretching out in every direction. We ride our bikes every single day without fail, and honestly, it might be our favourite version of this place. It’s just something a bit different every time you go out.
Riding every day from the Worcestershire countryside
When Tiffany rides her horse, Elliot rides the bike alongside her, and between the two of us we are out on those lanes come rain or shine. It has become part of how we live here, and it never feels the same twice. That is the thing about it, you go out on the same lane two days running and it gives you something completely different. You might see a hare in the field, you might see a pheasant flying up in front of you, and there’s always a connection to the wildlife that keeps it fresh.
That is what we love about it, really. It is not about racking up miles or chasing anything, it is just about getting out, feeling the air and seeing what the day gives you. Some mornings it is tipping it down and you go anyway, and you come back feeling fantastic. It brings you right back to the simple stuff, isn’t it?
Quiet lanes in every direction
What makes it so good round here is how the lanes just spread out from the site, and most of them are wonderfully quiet, the sort where you can hear the birds over your own wheels. You can wind your way through towards the Ockeridge woods, or point yourself off towards the apple orchards down the road, and the Worcestershire Way is only five minutes away if you want to leave the bike and stretch your legs partway.
We will not pretend to hand you a map of exact routes, because half the fun is finding your own way and stumbling on the little places, a farm shop, a footpath, a spot to just stop and look. The land rolls, so you get proper views for your effort, and on a clear day you can see the Malvern Hills from the gates, about forty minutes off if you fancy a bigger day out on wheels or on foot. There is a whole world of it out there, and it is right on the doorstep. If you want a few more ideas for getting out and about, we have gathered some over on our out and about page.
E-bikes make the hills friendly
Now, Worcestershire is not flat, and we would be the first to say so, but that is where an e-bike changes everything. With a bit of help on the climbs, those hills that might have put you off become part of the fun, and you can go further and see more without arriving anywhere worn out. It means everyone can join in, whatever your legs are used to, and you spend the whole ride enjoying the view rather than staring at the tarmac in front of you.
That is really the joy of it. You take it easy, you let the bike do a little of the work, and you notice things you would sail straight past in a car. A good ride out and then back to a warm hut is a lovely way to spend a day, and after a soak in the copper bath and a proper night’s sleep, you are ready to do it all again.
Come and ride it for yourself
Whether you settle into the ever popular Ashwood or the light and bright Abberley, you have got all these quiet lanes waiting just beyond the gates. Come and swap the everyday for a bit of this, book your stay and see where the roads take you.
