Family glamping in the Midlands done really well is a hard thing to find. Plenty of places will happily take the whole family, but the space is squeezed, or the quality drops the minute there are children involved. We wanted something better than that. When we built the Montana Log Cabin, we built it so a family gets the same care as everyone else, with the room a family actually needs.
It matters to us because we know how good a proper outdoors weekend is for children. Ours grew up around here, out on the bikes, feeding the pigs down the lane, spotting a hare in the field. There is something lovely about giving a child a weekend like that.
What good family glamping in the Midlands really needs
The first thing is space that works for everyone. Children need their own spot to sleep, and grown-ups need somewhere that still feels like a treat, not just a bigger box with more beds crammed in. It has to be warm right through, whatever the weather does, because a wet afternoon can be one of the cosiest parts of a stay when the cabin is toasty and you are all tucked up inside.
Then it needs the quality. We have never seen why a family stay should be any less special than a couple’s, so the beds, the finish, the private outdoor space, all of it has to be to the same standard. And it needs proper things to do just outside the door, so the weekend is about being out in it, not stuck in the car. Get those right and you have a stay that suits everybody.
How the Montana measures up
The Montana Log Cabin is our only family retreat, and it was made for exactly this. It sleeps two adults and up to two children under sixteen, with a bunk room for the little ones and a king size master for you, so everybody has their own space to sleep and their own bit of the weekend. There is an open plan living space to spread out in and full gas central heating, so it stays lovely and warm whenever you come.
Out on the decking there is an outdoor enamel bath, which the children tend to think is the best thing they have ever seen. You fill it with fresh water to whatever temperature you like and have a proper soak under the sky, and it is just something a bit different, isn’t it? What you get is a family cabin with the quality of our couples’ huts and the room a family needs. That is the whole point of it.
Days out from Wichenford and Worcestershire
Once you are settled in, there is loads on the doorstep. West Midlands Safari Park is an easy run out and a proper full day with the children, lions and all. The Severn Valley Railway is a treat too, a real steam train chugging through the countryside, the kind of simple thing children remember for years.
Closer still, the Wyre Forest is fantastic. We went last week on our e-bikes and spent two hours in there, and there is Go Ape and a nice cafe and so much to do. And you do not have to go far at all, because there are simple footpath walks straight from the gates, through the woods, out to spot the wildlife and back again. Between the big days out and the little wanders, there’s something for everybody, isn’t there, really?
You can read more about the days out on our out and about page, and there is plenty of detail about the cabin itself on the Montana page. Come and give the children a proper outdoors weekend, book the Montana and let us spoil you all a little.
