Glamping vs camping: what is the difference?

Camping and glamping both love the outdoors, but the stay itself could not be more different. Here is what really separates them.

Camping and glamping both get you out into the countryside, out under big open skies, away from the everyday hum of things, and there is something lovely about that whichever way you do it. What glamping adds is the comfort, so you get the escape you were after and a proper good night’s sleep to go with it. When we built this place, we’ve tried to make it feel more like a hotel, but in the countryside. That is really the whole idea in one line. It’s just something a bit different.

The comfort and the sleep

The thing people tell us most, over and over, is how well they have slept, and that is no accident, because we have put a lot into it. We spent heavily on the mattresses, we chose goose down duvets and lovely fluffy pillows, and you can feel it the moment you climb in. You wake up rested. Every one of our six retreats is unique, from the copper bath huts like the Ashwood shepherd’s hut right through to the family Montana log cabin, and each one has a fully equipped kitchen, an en-suite, Wi-Fi and Netflix. So you have got the countryside all around you and the creature comforts to hand. That is the bit camping cannot quite give you.

Weather that cannot spoil the stay

With camping, a bad forecast can undo the whole trip, and we all know that feeling, packing up soggy and a bit deflated. Here the weather simply does not have that power. The huts stay warm whatever the sky is doing, with log burners, underfloor heating or full central heating depending on the retreat, so a wet afternoon turns into one of the cosiest parts of the stay. You pull the door to, you put the kettle on, and you settle in. People tell us a rainy day here feels calming, almost romantic, tucked up warm and dry looking out at the green. It works. That is the difference glamping makes.

Eating out in the Worcestershire countryside

One of our favourite things is knowing guests can cook a proper meal in the hut, then carry it outside to eat it looking straight out at open countryside. There is no restaurant full of twenty other people, no queue or fuss; just you and your plate and the fields going on for miles. You could be anywhere in the world, and yet here you are in the middle of the Worcestershire countryside with the whole evening to yourself. It’s a posh picnic, isn’t it? Simple stuff, but that is what it is all about. The kitchen is fully kitted out, so you can bring whatever you fancy and make a proper go of it, or keep it easy, whatever suits your night.

That is the heart of glamping vs camping for us. You keep everything lovely about being outdoors, the space, the quiet, the sense of getting away, and you add the comfort that lets you really enjoy it. The good bed, the warm hut, the private soak in a copper bath filled with fresh water to whatever temperature you like. You get the escape and you get to rest properly while you have it. Both at once.

Come and feel the difference

We are proud of what we have built here, from a bare field with our own hands, and we would love for you to come and see it. Pick your hut, bring someone you love, and let us spoil you a little. Book your stay and come and find out what a night here really feels like.
