Just up the road from us there is a proper little canal town called Stourport-on-Severn, and it is about twenty minutes away, so it makes for a lovely easy day out. It is one of those places that brings you back to simple things, a wander by the water, a boat going past, a bag of chips in your hand. We send people off there all the time, and they always come back happy. It is a bit different, and that is what we love about it.
If you are looking for stourport on severn things to do, this is a good place to start.
A canal town through and through
What makes Stourport so unique is how it came to be. It is often described as the only town in Britain built purely because of a canal, which is a lovely thing to think about when you are standing by the water. The canal basins are the heart of it, and they are full of narrowboats, all painted up and moored together, and you can just stand there and watch the world go by. It has that traditional feel to it, a bit of a funfair by the water, boats and bridges and the river running through. It is the kind of place where you slow right down without even meaning to.
A day out by the water
A day in Stourport does not need much planning, which is half the joy of it. You can wander along the riverside and watch the narrowboats coming and going through the locks, which is captivating really, because when was the last time you stood and watched a boat go through a lock? You can take a proper walk along the river, stretch your legs, hear the water, and then find somewhere to sit and have a bag of fish and chips right by the Severn. It is a posh picnic in its own way, isn’t it, sitting by the river with your chips watching the boats. There is a nice old funfair feel by the water too, so it is a good one if you fancy something a bit nostalgic. There are pubs and places to eat dotted about, so you can make a whole afternoon of it, or just potter for an hour and head back.
If you want more to plan around, there is a proper local guide to Stourport-on-Severn that lays it all out for you.
Pairing Stourport with a stay in the Worcestershire countryside
This is exactly the sort of day we love people to have when they stay with us, because Stourport sits so nicely alongside a night in one of our huts. You can head off in the morning, spend a couple of hours by the canal, walk by the river, have your chips, and then come back and hunker down for the evening. Run a lovely deep soak in the copper bath, put a bit of music on, and let the day settle. Our most popular hut is the Ashwood, with a William Holland copper bath for two and a log burner, and it is a proper cosy spot to come home to. If you fancy something light and bright with a picture window straight out into open fields, the Abberley is a lovely one too.
That is what we are always trying to encourage. Come and enjoy the hut, of course, but go and see what is just down the road as well. We are an easy point to head out from, whether that is Stourport, the Ockeridge woods or the apple orchards, and then you have somewhere quiet and warm to come back to. You will sleep brilliantly, because it is dark and it is quiet, and you can start again the next day. If you would like a few more ideas for days out, we have gathered some over on our out and about page.
Come and swap the everyday for a bit of this, book a hut with us and let us spoil you a little. We would love to have you. Book your stay here.
