Glamping is simply the best bits of camping with none of the bits that make you miserable. You get to wake up to birdsong, fall asleep under dark skies and spend your days surrounded by nature, but you do it from a proper bed with a goose down duvet, a hot shower whenever you fancy one and Netflix when the mood takes you. It is hotel-quality comfort in a natural setting, and it is transformed the way people think about countryside breaks.
The difference between glamping and traditional camping is honestly night and day. Think back to a standard camping trip: the tent that never quite keeps the rain out, the sleeping bag that is either too hot or too cold, the portaloo situation, the instant regret when the weather turns. You spend half your time fighting the elements instead of enjoying them. At glamping sites like Ockeridge, when rain starts pattering on the tin roof, it is not a disaster, it is romantic. You are warm, dry and comfortable, listening to the rain from your bed with a cup of tea and a book, or cosied up by a log burner.
What makes a glamping retreat different
Each retreat at Ockeridge is designed to feel like your own little escape from the real world. You arrive to find proper heating, whether that is underfloor heating or full gas central heating, a fully equipped kitchen where you can cook or simply make a cup of tea, a spacious en-suite or wetroom with a proper hot shower, and Wi-Fi so you can dip in and out of the world as you choose. The beds are generous, the fabrics are quality and the outdoor spaces are thoughtfully designed so you can sit outside and feel completely at peace.
What sets glamping apart is that you are not roughing it. You are simply doing it differently. There are no neighbours on top of you, no holiday park atmosphere, just you and nature. The Worcestershire countryside unfolds around you with all its magic intact: dark skies where you can actually see stars, the orchestra of birdsong at dawn, the smell of fresh air and earth. You get the restorative power of nature without sacrificing any comfort.
The range of retreats at Ockeridge
We have created six unique retreats, each with its own personality. Five are shepherd’s huts and one is a log cabin, so whether you are looking for intimate romance or a family adventure, there is something right for you. The Ashwood is our most popular retreat, featuring a stunning William Holland luxury copper bathtub positioned at the end of the bed, a log burner for those atmospheric evenings and its own private bar on the undercover decking. The Monkwood offers similar luxury with oak beams and countryside views, while The Abberley is our newest hut, bright and airy with full gas central heating and beautiful oak finishes.
If you are after something a bit different, The Hillside View has quirky plant-inspired walls with LED lighting and is our most affordable option without compromising on quality. The Shepherds Retreat is special because it has a secluded outdoor enamel rolltop bath tucked into an enclosed garden with willow fencing and festoon lighting, something altogether more romantic. And if you are bringing the family, The Montana Log Cabin is our only retreat that welcomes children, with two bedrooms, a proper family shower and all the space you need to spread out.
Why glamping works for real life
The whole point of glamping is that you arrive somewhere beautiful and you actually feel able to switch off. No tent to pitch, no uncomfortable sleeping arrangements, no rationing hot water. You can focus on what matters: reconnecting with nature, spending proper time with the people you are with, walking, watching, listening and simply being. Many guests tell us they leave feeling genuinely re-energised, not just tired from a holiday.
Whether it is the rain on the tin roof that somehow makes everything feel more cosy, or the fact that you can have a proper bath in the middle of the countryside, glamping strips away the stress and leaves you with the magic. It is not about complicated gear or pretending to be something you are not. It is simple really: quality comfort, surrounded by nature, on your own terms.
