Wyre Forest: what to do and why it is worth a visit

The Wyre Forest is one of the largest ancient woodlands in England, and it is less than thirty minutes from Ockeridge. Here is what is waiting in there.

The Wyre Forest is one of those places that sits right on our doorstep, and we still count ourselves lucky it is so close. It is under thirty minutes from Ockeridge, which makes it a brilliant half day out, and we go ourselves whenever we can. There is more here than you might think.

Our morning in the forest

We went last week with our e-bikes, and it was one of those simple mornings that just sets you up right. We spent two hours in the forest, riding along the trails, stopping for the odd breather, and taking it all in. Every time we go it feels a little bit different, the light through the trees, the birds, the quiet of it all. It is fantastic, and you come out the other side feeling like you have properly switched off. That is the thing about a forest, isn’t it, you go in for a ride and you come back a bit calmer than when you started.

If you are staying with us in the Ashwood or the Monkwood, it is an easy hop out for the day and back in time for a soak in the copper bath.

The trails and the woodland itself

The Wyre Forest is the largest woodland National Nature Reserve in the country, and the woodland itself is over a thousand years old, which is a lovely thing to think about while you are wandering through it. When it comes to Wyre Forest things to do, the trails are the heart of it, and they suit walkers and cyclists of all levels, so whether you fancy a gentle stroll or you want to put a few proper miles in on the bike, there is a route for you.

You do not need to be an expert, and you do not need any fancy kit. Just good shoes or a bike, and a bit of time. That is really all it takes. We always say the best days out are the simple ones, and this is exactly that.

Go Ape and the cafe

If you want a bit of adventure while you are there, they have Go Ape on site, so you can get up into the treetops and have a proper go on the high ropes and zip lines. It is good fun for families, and if you are staying in the Montana with little ones it is a lovely thing to build a day around. You can find the details over on the Go Ape Wyre Forest page.

And when you have earned it, there is a nice cafe on site too. The Wyre Forest Cafe is open daily, so you can sit down with a coffee and a bit of cake and watch the world go by after your walk or ride. There’s so much to do, and it is the kind of place where you can happily lose half a day without even trying. A morning on the trails, a bit of Go Ape, a coffee to finish, and you have had a proper day out.

From the Worcestershire countryside

What we love about being where we are is how many of these places are right on the doorstep. The Wyre Forest is just one, and if you want a few more ideas for while you are staying, we have gathered our favourites over on our out and about page. We do like people to come and enjoy the hut, of course, but we love it even more when they head out and see what is around them too.

Come and swap the everyday for a bit of this, ride the forest trails by day and sink into a copper bath by night. We would love to have you, so book your stay and let us spoil you a little.
